Alumni Spotlight – Cindy Carey

Cindy Carey, Director of Advancement Services & Engagement

A Wyoming, native, Cindy grew up fishing, hiking, camping and exploring the great outdoors. She chose to attend CWC after graduating high school for several reasons, including its affordability, small class sizes, welcoming environment, and proximity to the mountains. “The ability to get to know my professors, and for them to know me, was pivotal to my overall success at CWC,” she said.

During her time at CWC she learned the value of hard work and setting goals. Her professors challenged her ways of thinking and helped her see things from different perspectives. Especially her Intercultural Communications Professor. “My professor was really good at making us uncomfortable in class, forcing us to delve into hard topics, while learning how to listen to each other’s points of views. She did it with a gentle hand providing a safe space for each of us to express or thoughts and opinions,” said Cindy.

Cindy believes that colleges, like CWC, play an important role in the communities they serve. “The ability to cater their course offerings and curriculum around the needs of the community is invaluable. CWC has excelled at this, as is evident, with the addition of the Rustler AG & Equine complex, the work being done at the Alpine Science Institute and so much more. It’s an honor and privilege to know that I’m doing my small part to make Central Wyoming College, a place that students can excel, have opportunities to study curriculum that allows for them to be successful, and stay in Wyoming if they chose to do so,” said Cindy.

When Cindy is not at work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, three kids, four dogs and attending various activities within her community.
